Default Build thread. FB Rx-7 1983/1984 [No 56K AT ALL lots of pics]

Well as some of you may know, I crashed my 83 GSL Rx-7. I sourced a wonderful shell from the leader of a local first gen Rx-7 group I am part of, (the OGTA) and even got a good chunk of the club to help me with the build. We had to swap:

    -Engine
    -Transmission
    -Drive shaft
    -Rear axle
    -Rear suspension
    -front suspension
    -steering box, steering assembly
    -brakes
    -interior
    -tail lights
-pretty much all that isn't glass or bodywork

We had about 8 or 9 people working ALL day today, and got nearly everything done. We still have to bleed the brakes, hook up th electrics, hook up and fill the coolant system, fill the engine with oil, and a few other small things and I should be driving it home. Not bad for 2 days huh?

All snug in its new home:

HAha practically compelte, I'm hoping to driver her home tomorrow.

Yeah, being in the OGTA, with a like 10 people who have each taken one of these apart before REALLY helps. We moved FAST, with teams assigned to each section

2 guys on rear axel, 2 on steering, 3 on motor, and 1 on interior and a couple people floating around doing other stuff.

Haha yes. Sadly, the car is not in my possession just yet. We got her to start today and boy does she run like a clock, all the gauges are wired, steering is hooked back up, brakes are bled, clutch is bled, and it probably would drive if I took it off the stands and threw some wheels on it, but the headlights and taillights aren't working so we need to find out the one little missing piece to the circuit for all that, fuse or otherwise, the car got seats and a steering wheel today too, but we also need to hook up the interior while it's still at the other guy's house, as it is his old car, and he has spare interior stuff, and the stuff from mine won't swap into an 84, so that needs to be worked out. Lastly, his ignition was still bolted to his power steering system, and I have a manual steering rack with a different ignition that won't go on the power steering so we have to swap the door locks and rear hatch lock too.

that wasn't my fault actually. I had it on god, but the fuel pump was disconnected, we disconnected the line to find it dry, slid it back on w/o re tightening the clamp, found out the fuel pump was unplugged THEN that happened.

did way more than that, this is one of the few ACTUAL build threads I've seen, where I build a car, rather than have a project build, with mods and stuff, this is just building a an entire car haha.

yeah, this little group of first gen Rx-7 owners is one of the nicest, tight-knit car communities I have ever come across. I wish everyone could treat each other the way we treat each other. we meet once a month, and drink, and eat, and laugh and enjoy ourselves. we swap parts for free, not sell them, we offer free labor, and we all have each other's numbers, it's a beautiful way to keep cars on the road, if you need a part, ask if anyone has a spare, if someone needs a part, you give them one if you have a spare, and collect them off parts cars and pull -a-parts etc.

anyone who wants to hang out with us, we meet the first Tuesday of every month at Jeffery's sports bar in Suwanne @ 7:00p.m., although the name just changed to Twisted Tavern, so I guess we meet there. If anyone wants to come, that's this Tuesday, and we are nice to all people. Anyway, I will finish up the work on the car now that I got it to drive home, then I will make a new thread for it and get to posting some pics up.
